Botanical Garden is part of the wealth of the nation which is the Knowledge Center Botany, Conservation Areas, the Area of Education and Research, as well as a means of Recreation in the open. Throughout the world today there are about 2000 botanical gardens, while in Indonesia now there are only 7 Botanical Gardens, namely:
Four botanical gardens managed by the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), namely:
1. Bogor Botanical Gardens (established in 1817 in West Java Province)
2. Cibodas (founded in 1852 in Cianjur of West Java Province)
3. Purwodadi (founded 1941 in Pasuruan, East Java Province)
4. Eka Karya Botanic Garden (founded in 1959 in Bali Province)
Three botanical gardens under the management of local governments, namely:
1. Botanical Bukit Sari (founded 1999), in the province of Jambi
2. Botanical Gardens Baturaden (founded 2004) in Central Java
3. Botanical Balikpapan (founded 2005), in the province of East Kalimantan
The fact that the state of the soil, climate, vegetation composition and plant diversity of a region different from other regions, then each of the Botanical Gardens in Indonesia also has character and potential of different nature as well, each of which has its own charm.
Botanical by the Presidential Decree number 93 of 2011 is a conservation area in ex situ plant that has a collection of plants documented and organized according to the pattern of taxonomic classification, bioregion, thematic, or a combination of the patterns for the purpose of conservation, research, education, tourism and environmental services.
Construction of the Botanical Gardens in Provinces throughout Indonesia in decides to by the Government as in the direction of the President on National Technology Awakening Day on August 11, 2004 in Puspitek Serpong, and has followed up with a letter of the Minister of Research and Technology of the number 77 / M / VIII / 2004 August 23, 2004 to all Governors to realize the coordinated development of botanical gardens by LIPI.
PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
The purpose of the activity Preparation / Review this Master Plan is a guide to achieve more concrete, more detail and more scalable in the Development of the Botanical Gardens South Sumatra within the next 15-20 years The purpose of the activities Preparation / Review Master Plan are as a guide in the development of the Botanical Garden South Sumatra guidelines that will be obtained in a comprehensive and sustainable development.
The expected goals of the Master Plan for the manufacture of these guidelines is to achieve concrete, measurable and more detail in the construction of the Botanical Gardens South Sumatra to the period of the next 15-20 years.
UNDERSTANDING THE BOTANICAL GARDEN
Botanical Garden (Botanical Garden) is a place where the plant grows and performed mainly for scientific and educational purposes. Botanical garden has a collection of plants in the open and in the greenhouse, there is also a collection of dried plants, or herbarium, as well as existing facilities study rooms, laboratories, libraries, museums, and experimental plant (Esiklopedia Encarta).
Planting trees in the botanical garden is set according to pengolongan in botany, such as setting according to the systematic plant (plant classification), ecological (relations environment), or geographic (place of origin). Great botanical gardens often include special groupings, such as garden rocks (rock garden), garden (water garden), garden "wildflower", and others.
